Meet the Hyde Family

This family is an inspiration to all who have the privilege of knowing them. Everett Hyde is a young dad, athletic, soft-spoken, caring and great inspirational and uplifting friend. Two years ago, he was diagnosed with extensive small cell lung cancer even though he is a life-long non smoking, health conscious person.

He began fighting this life-threatening illness by undergoing 18 weeks of chemotherapy. This treatment was only partially effective. From there he undertook a progressive 13-week I.V. treatment (out of state) not yet approved by the FDA. Everett continues these treatments in Cincinnati 2 to 3 days a week and travels out of state for intensive treatment every one-two months which dramatically limits his ability to work on a consistent basis and severely limits the Hydes' income.

Most treatment expenses are out of pocket. Everett's cancer has NEVER gotten him down. He has always said that he's going to overcome his cancer and plans to see his children graduate college and walk his daughter down the aisle. His quality of life is good and he has remained stable for the last year, which is a rarity for his type of cancer. He is the most positive, upbeat person you've ever met with a very calming demeanor.

Everett and his loving wife, Hollie, have four young children: Their son Dosh, is soft spoken, social, kind and is a great leader to his siblings and friends. Annika is their only daughter, and is creative, funny, caring and compassionate. Their middle son, Mckeel, is athletic, shy, loving, caring and loyal. All are tremendously helpful to their parents, friends and each other. Their youngest son, Cass is a beautiful child both inside and out. Cass is a fighter with a strong spirit who has been afflicted with a rare disorder and symptomatic hypotonic Cerebral Palsy.

Due to Cass' disability, he has significant delays in his speech and language functioning as well as the way in which he interacts within his environment. He faces multiple feeding and breathing issues that have impacted his general health. Cass' disability requires many hours of medical therapy that are either limited by medical insurance or not covered at all.

Everett and Hollie have been married since their early 20's. Hollie is a devoted mother who is very involved in their children's lives. She is caring, patient and a considerate and beautiful friend. Since her pregnancy with Cass she has given her full attention and time to the care and medical needs of her young family. Her family inspires her and despite having recent surgery to remove a melanoma she has continued fundraising efforts so that Everett and Cass can continue uncovered treatments.

In wishing to thank people for their generosity, she, in her unimaginable spare time, began making handmade tote bags, "Hydeaways". It is the Hydes' small thank you to others for their contribution in helping their family.
